Short answer: Sales outsourcing means paying an outside company to do part of your sales process. The three parts you can hand off are prospecting, appointment setting and closing. Most companies do best by outsourcing prospecting first and keeping the closing in-house. Next Reply handles one piece only: cold email prospecting.
- Easiest to outsource: prospecting, because it is repeatable.
- Hardest to outsource: closing, because it depends on product knowledge and trust.
- Where to start: the part your team keeps skipping.
What is sales outsourcing?
Sales outsourcing is an arrangement where an outside company does sales work that your own staff would otherwise do. It can be as small as building a contact list or as large as running the whole sales function under your brand.
The phrase gets used loosely. One outsourced sales company may only send cold email. Another may supply a team of reps who call, book and close. Before you compare prices, pin down which part of the process a provider covers. Two quotes for outsourcing sales can describe completely different jobs.
What parts of sales can be outsourced?
A B2B sale usually moves through three stages, and each can be handed off separately.
| Stage | What the provider does | Risk to you |
|---|---|---|
| Prospecting | Finds and contacts buyers | Lower |
| Appointment setting | Qualifies and books meetings | Medium |
| Closing | Runs calls and signs deals | Higher |
Prospecting. The provider builds a list of companies that fit, contacts them by email, phone or another channel, and passes on the people who respond with interest. The work follows a process, so an outside team can do it without knowing your product in depth.
Appointment setting. The provider talks with interested prospects, checks that they fit, and puts a meeting on your calendar. This takes more product knowledge, because the setter has to answer early questions. Our guide to B2B appointment setting services explains how that work is done.
Closing. An outside rep runs the sales calls, handles objections and signs the customer. This is the stage where your reputation, pricing and promises are on the line, and where a mistake is most expensive.
What are the pros and cons of sales outsourcing?
The advantages:
- Speed. A provider already has the people, tools and process. You skip recruiting and training.
- Flexible cost. You pay a fee, not a salary with benefits, tools and management time on top.
- Specialist skill. A team that does one job all day is usually better at it than a generalist doing it on Fridays.
- Focus. Your own people spend their time on conversations with buyers who already showed interest.
The drawbacks:
- Less control. Someone else is speaking for your company.
- Thinner product knowledge. An outside rep knows what you told them, and no more.
- Mixed incentives. A provider paid per meeting wants meetings. You want customers. Those are not the same thing.
- Dependence. If the provider keeps the lists, data and accounts, you start from zero when you leave.
- Shared attention. Unless you pay for a dedicated rep, your account is one of several.
Which part of sales should you outsource first?
For most small and mid-size B2B companies, prospecting is the right first step. There are three reasons.
First, it is the part that gets skipped. Owners and salespeople will always take a call with a live buyer over an hour of list building. Prospecting only works when it happens every week, and outside teams are built for that.
Second, the downside is smaller. If a prospecting campaign misses, you lose a month’s fee and learn something about your market. If an outside closer mishandles your deals, you lose customers you had already earned the chance to win.
Third, it keeps the knowledge in your building. When your own people take the sales calls, they hear the objections and questions directly. That is how your offer improves.
Closing is usually the last thing to outsource, if you ever do. The exception is a simple product with a short sales cycle and a clear script. Appointment setting sits in between. It is worth adding once prospecting is producing more replies than your team can answer quickly.
What do sales outsourcing services cost?
Pricing follows the stage. Prospecting is most often sold as a flat monthly retainer. Appointment setting is sold as a retainer, a fee per booked meeting, or a mix of the two. Outsourced closers often work for a commission on the deals they sign, sometimes with a base fee.
As a rule, the closer a provider gets to the signed deal, the more you pay, because they take on more of the work and more of the risk. Our cold email agency pricing guide covers the prospecting end, and the outsourced SDR guide covers dedicated reps.
Compare any quote with what the same work would cost you in-house. The SDR cost calculator does that with your own numbers. A simple example: if you pay $1,400 a month for prospecting and it leads to two new customers over three months, each customer cost $2,100 to win. Whether that works depends on what a customer is worth to you.
How do you choose an outsourced sales company?
- Which stage do you cover, and what do you not do?
- Who does the work, and will I talk to them?
- Do I approve the target list and the messaging before it goes out?
- How do you define a qualified lead or a qualified meeting?
- What do I see in reporting, and how often?
- Who owns the lists, accounts and data if we part ways?
- What are the cancellation terms?
Be wary of a provider that guarantees results before learning anything about your market. Be just as wary of one that claims to do every stage and every channel equally well.
Where does Next Reply fit in sales outsourcing?
Next Reply covers the prospecting stage, and only through cold email. We do not do cold calling, LinkedIn outreach, paid ads or SEO, and we do not run your sales calls or close your deals. Your team takes the conversation once a prospect replies with interest.
| Plan | Price | Prospects per month |
|---|---|---|
| Startup | $1,500 a month | Up to 1,000 |
| Growth | $3,000 a month | Up to 2,500 |
| Scale | $6,500 a month | 5,000 or more |
Every plan includes list building, sending infrastructure setup, copy, follow-ups and monthly reporting. Growth adds reply qualification, meeting booking and a monthly strategy call. A campaign goes live in 14 days, and you approve every list before anything sends. Compare the plans.

Frequently asked questions
What is sales outsourcing in simple terms?
It is paying another company to do some of your selling. That might be finding prospects, booking meetings, closing deals, or a combination.
Is outsourcing sales a good idea for a small business?
Often yes for prospecting, because a small team rarely has time to do it every week. It is riskier for closing, where your own knowledge of the product and the customer matters most.
What is the difference between sales outsourcing and lead generation?
Lead generation is one part of sales outsourcing. It covers finding and contacting prospects. Sales outsourcing can also include booking meetings and closing deals.
Can I outsource only one part of sales?
Yes, and it is usually the better way to start. Hand off one stage, see how it performs, then decide whether to add more.
Does Next Reply close deals for clients?
No. Next Reply runs cold email prospecting. Your team handles the sales conversations and the close.
